Kotimaisen All Will Be Quietin uusi video ei visuaaliselta ilmeeltään ole kenties se kaikkein piristävin, mutta biisi sen sijaan on juuri sitä. Big Wave Ridersin Move On on yksi lemppareistani bändiltä, joten siihen tehty livevideo on sekin ehdottomasti plussaa. Lana Del Rey, saatika tuo kihlatun kanssa coveroitu kappale, tuskin sen sijaan enempää esittelyjä kaipaa. 

Some new music videos to make this Friday a bit sunnier! Finnish All Will Be Quiet and Big Wave Riders both fit my ear drums like missing pieces of a puzzle. There's also no doubt about my love towards Lana Del Rey - I assume this cover song she recorded with her fiancé needs no introducing.

Big Wave Riders & Satellite Stories

Ihan vaan, jos joltakulta on vaikka jäänyt huomioimatta pari videota. Satellite Stories julkaisee debyyttinsä Phrases to Break the Ice syyskuussa, Big Wave Ridersin vastaava Life Less Ordinary taas on ulkona tänä perjantaina. Uskaltanen paljastaa molempien olevan tykkikamaa!

Just in case you've missed these two videos - Satellite Stories will release their debut album Phrases to Break the Ice in September, whilst Big Wave Riders' debut Life Less Ordinary is out this Friday. I dare to let you know already they both kick ass!

Aistien juhlaa

Jiihaa, tänään starttaa odotettu, uusi, uljas ja urbaani kaupunkifestari Kuudes Aisti. Minut tosin löytää Sörkan tuotantolaitoskortteleiden imusta vasta sunnuntaina, vaikka kiintoisa tarjonta kattaakin koko viikonlopun. Kenties ensi vuonna sitten. Joka tapauksessa, sunnuntaina omaan settiini tulevat toivottavasti kuulumaan ainakin seuraavat tutut ja ihanat musiikkipläjäykset.

Yippee, today starts the new 'n' shiny, urban festival called Kuudes Aisti (sixth sense). I'll be found from the industrial blocks at Sörnäinen only on Sunday, which is a bit sad, since the whole weekend seems a bit too interesting. Maybe next year then. Anyway, on Sunday my set of mandatory gigs will include for example those familiar yet so lovely bands linked above.

Big Wave Riders - Sunny Side

Hyvää maanantaita! Rokista on selvitty, vaikka jalat huutavat lepoa ja kenkiä ei enää tunnista omikseen mutakerroksen alta. Oli hyvät meiningit, kiitos kaikille! Eritoten Pulp tahkoi juuri niin mieletöntä tahtia kuin uskalsi olettaakin ♥ Kuvatuksia pistetään kehiin sitten taas jossain vaiheessa.

Ensin kuitenkin uutta Ridersia. Tulevalle Life Less Ordinary -debyytille on jo olemassa biisilista ja julkaisupäivä, ja nyt myös lisää ennakkomakupaloja. Sunny Side on bassopompotuksillaan ja syntikkasäestyksillään yhtä helmeilevä kuin bändin aiemmatkin kipaleet, mutta nimestään huolimatta se on kuitenkin samaan aikaan vähemmän aurinkoinen (mielikuva voi myös johtua ulkona tällä hetkellä vallitsevasta pilvisen tuulisesta "kesäsäästä", toim.huom.). Voin silti kuvitella enemmän kuin hyvin Suomenlinnan kalliot, kimaltelevan meren ja piknik-korin, jonka sisällön kimppuun ystävykset hyökkäävät nälkäisinä.

Good Monday! Weekend's rock festival is over, and feelings about it are overall extremely fine. Especially Pulp was just as good as I dared to expect ♥ Thank you all! And yes, pictures are coming some time later.

But first, some new Big Wave Riders. The band has published a track list and a release date for their debut album called Life Less Ordinary, and a new song is also out. Sunny Side is just as sparkling and tingling as one might expect, but at the same time it's - despite the name - a bit less sunny than Riders' previous songs. Or maybe it's just the current weather (cloudy & windy) that's affecting my mental image. Anyhow, I can definitely see the salty rocks of Suomenlinna, a vast blue ocean and a bunch of friends, who are fighting over the contents of a picnic basket.

Big Wave Riders - Waiting in the Wings

Mikä voisi huokua enemmän kesäbiisin statusta, kuin Big Wave Ridersin debyyttikokopitkältä julkaistu ensimmäinen raita Waiting In The Wings? Keikoilla tätä ollaan jo kuultukin. Leikittelevät kitarat tuovat mielen päälle pitkät kuumat hiekkarannat ja hedelmäiset drinkit kirkkaanvärisillä paperisateenvarjoilla. Naminami!

Could a song be more summery than the first released track from Big Wave Riders' upcoming debut album? I doubt it. Waiting In The Wings has already been heard on gigs. Playful guitars take your mind to long, golden beaches and fruity drinks with bright-coloured paper umbrellas. Yummy!

Big Wave Riders @ Lepakkomies

Reilu kuukausi sitten Big Wave Riders veti mukavan tanssittavan setin Lepakkomiehessä. Tunnin odottelu yksin, kaamean post whatever depressionin siivittämänä meinasi horjuttaa tämän tytön mieltä, mutta onneksi keikka oli yhtä ihana kuin aiemminkin. Seuraavan kerran poikia kuullaankin sitten jo ensi lauantaina, kun he nousevat Tavastian lauteille yhdessä French Filmsin kanssa - parhautta!! Ja loppukesästä pukkaa ulos sitten sitä paljon odotettua debyyttilevyä.

A little over a month ago Big Wave Riders did a nice, danceful gig at Lepakkomies. I had to wait for over an hour for the gig to start, alone, with a huge post whatever depression and I thought I'd die. Luckily the set was as lovely as ever. Next time with the boys is actually already next Saturday, when BWR hops onto Tavastia's stage together with French Films. How cool is that!? And late next summer the highly anticipated debut album should be out.

Streak and the Raven vs. Big Wave Riders

Sen kerran, kun tiedossa on hyvää livemusiikkia, ei ole mikään ihme, että keikat osuvat päällekkäin.

Semifinalissa esiintyi eilen Streak and the Raven, jonka koneilla maustetut post-rokkailut kuulostavat ainakin omaan korvaani törkeän hyviltä. Lepakkomiehessä poppaili taas kesää huokuvia sulosointuja ilmoille vapauttava Big Wave Riders. Sain sitten molemmat ujutettua omaan kalenteriini, kun showtimet sattuivat kerrankin sopivasti. The odds that when there's a bunch of good gigs coming, they end up being at the exact same time, are a bit too high. But I got what I wanted - both Streak and the Raven with their electronic post-rock-pop-something and Big Wave Riders, who never let me down. Yay! Pictures coming up later.

Big Wave Riders @ Alakerta

Seuraavat otokset ovat sarjassamme "maailman paskimmat kuvausolosuhteet, mutta ei sitä kameraa osaa jättää aloilleenkaan". Onneksi fiiliskuvien kanssa se ei ole niin justiinsa (lisää täällä).

Nähtyäni vuoden lopussa Big Wave Ridersin kolme kertaa livenä kolmen viikon sisällä ovat vieroitusoireet äityneet koviksi, sillä bändiä ei hetkeen lavoilla nähdä. Sen sijaan studioaikaa on buukattu helmikuusta lähtien, ja kokonaista albumia saamme odotella joskus ensi vuonna. Loistavaa!

I saw Big Wave Riders live three times in three weeks, and I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms. Especially when the band will stay out from clubs for a while - instead they've booked studio time starting on from February. Yay!

Here's a few pics from their last gig this year at Nosturi's Alakerta (more here). Bad conditions for photographing, yes, but I can always claim that there's at least feeling in the photos. Whether other people notice it or not.

Soliti compilation

Lahjoja näemmä jaetaan vielä joulun jälkeenkin - Soliti julkaisi ensimmäisen digitaalisen kokoelmansa, josta löytyy yhdeksän raidan verran kaikenlaista maukasta. Omat lempparini ovat Big Wave Ridersin Behind These Walls, The New Tigersin Pocketful of Sand sekä Black Twigin Lake Song, mutta ei kyllä mitään vikaa noissa muissakaan. Jospa tämän avulla selviäisi uuteen vuoteen asti. Suosittelen!

Christmas isn't over yet, folks! Soliti released its first digital compilation today with nine delicious tracks. My favourites are Big Wave Riders' Behind These Walls, The New Tigers' Pocketful of Sand and Black Twig's Lake Song, but there's nothing wrong with the others either. Good for trying to survive until New Year's Eve - I highly recommend.

An evening with Soliti

Indielevy-yhtiö Solitin artisti-ilta oli menestys - Korjaamon kulmasali oli loppuunmyyty, neljä bändiä takasivat hyvät pörinät useaksi tunniksi ja fiilis oli muutenkin leppoisa. Tällaisia lisää!

The New Tigers aloitti illan heti ovien auettua ja onnistui ihastuttamaan musiikin lisäksi somisteilla: värillisillä jouluvaloilla ja piirtoheittimellä, jonka kautta settilista heijastettiin seinälle. Huippua! Ainoa aiemmin näkemäni Tikrujen keikka oli Stupidossa, jolloin laulu toimi jopa levyä paremmin. Tällä kertaa kuitenkin korvaan pisti selvästi kunnollisen laulutaidon ja siihen liittyvän karisman puute, mikä on harmi, sillä kitarajamitteluosiot toimivat tajuttoman hyvin. Ajan kanssa toivottavasti sitten se laulukin. Tällä viikolla muuten julkistettiin pari uutta biisiäkin, hop hop kuuntelemaan!

Black Twigin aikana palohälytys ajoi porukan pihalle hytisemään, mutta se ei bändin menoa haitannut, pikemminkin päinvastoin. Ainakin lämmin tunnelma korostui tauon jälkeen myös fyysisesti. Pari biisiä meni vähän ohi korvien, mutta muut olivatkin sitten tykkejä, ja tammikuussa julkaistava levy tulee varmasti pyörimään soittimessa vielä paljon.




Cats On Fire oli nelikosta se, jolle alunperinkin lämpenin vähiten (vaikka musiikki sinänsä hyvää onkin) eikä keikka muuttanut tilannetta. Jotenkin bändi ei vaikuttanut kovinkaan yhtenäiseltä, mikä toisaalta saattoi johtua siitä, että kaikki lavalla nähdyt muusikot eivät virallisesti kuulu poppooseen (?? korjatkaa, jos olen väärässä). Biiseissä on potkua, mutta tyyli ei sytytä täysillä. Viimeinen herkkä kappale oli parasta, se osui.

Big Wave Riders. Huh. Ensimmäinen bändin livekokemus minulle, ja meni sitten taas suu virneessä suurin osa ajasta. Ihana! Lavameininki oli varmaa ja herkullista, ja bändi tuntuu kaiken kaikkiaan varsin valmiilta paketilta. Onneksi näen aallonratsastajat uudestaan jo lähiaikoina, kun he lämmittelevät Wolf Gangia varten.

Finnish indie record label Soliti offered a pretty neat treat last Saturday - an evening with four of their bands at Korjaamo. The music provided a nice buzz to the evening, which was eventually sold out. Great!

I've seen The New Tigers once before at Stupido record store. This time the christmas lights on stage gave a very different, albeit very lovable effect to the atmosphere. I really love the Tigers and their jamming. Unfortunately the singing isn't that good, but I hope in time it'll rise to the same level as the whirring guitars! This week two new ("leftover") tracks were released, check them out here. 

Black Twig will have their debut album out in January. During their gig the fire alarm went off and everybody had to get out of the building into the freezing air. Black Twig didn't suffer from this at all, in fact the feeling was very warm and welcoming after the crowd got back in. A couple of songs didn't really stick to me, but the rest of them were super!

From these four acts Cats On Fire was the one I liked the least. Don't get me wrong, they're good, just not entirely my thing. The gig didn't change that, although there were lots of good tunes. The last song was the best of the set, tender and beautiful.

This was my first live experience concerning Big Wave Riders and I fell completely in love. A bit dangerous, these gigs are! ;) The band seemed so ready, with a confident and delicious spirit on stage. Luckily I'll be seeing BWR soon again, 'cause theyr'e warming up for Wolf Gang.
