The Bullitts  julkaisi äskettäin debyyttialbuminsa, jonka yhdellä biisillä fiittaa ikirakkauteni Tori Amos. Ja se biisi, ei helvetti miten mahtava! Se on soinut koko illan repeatilla. Kokonaisuudessaan levy ei ole ihan minun makuuni, mutta löytyy sieltä Torin fiittaaman biisin lisäksi myös joitain muita minua miellyttäviä biisejä.

Yes, finally some new music from Scandinavian Music Group! We'll have to wait until winter for the album but it's nice that they released this song already because you know, SMG is just an essential part of summer. I like the song and the video by Joel Melasniemi & Terhi Kokkonen is so dreamy and beautiful.

Anticipating Flow Festival

Tänä kesänä minua kutsuu vain kahdet festarit, joista Flow Festival vetää pidemmän korren mahtavalla artistikattauksellaan. Jos haluat voittaa kaksi kappaletta kolmen päivän lippua Flow Festivaliin, niin suuntaa ihmeessä tänne! Omasta taskusta tuo kolmen päivän lippu jo löytyy.

Musiikin lisäksi Flow Festival sisältää  muun muassa taidetta ja designia. Odotan erityisesti 67-vuotiaan Irmela Mensah-Schrammin näkemistä. Eläkepäiviään viettävä Irmela on jo vuosia kuluttanut aikaansa rasististen sekä juutalais- ja homovastaisten julisteiden, tarrojen & graffitien tuhoamiseen. Mahtavaa! Irmela toteuttaa muuten festareilla vihanvastaisen teoksen yhdessä Flow'n festarivieraiden kanssa.

I'm only going to two festivals this summer: Provinssirock and Flow Festival. Of those two Flow Festival is definetely the more anticipated one. If you want to win two 3-day-tickets to Flow Festival then click here! I have that ticket already although I'm  abit sad that I can't make it to the opening concert and see The Knife live. My list of gigs I wan't to see is quite overwhelming anyway and I won't be able to see all I'd want to. Today I listened quickly to all of Flow Festival's artists and there are a lot of them. Amongst the known and liked were lots of new interesting ones. I've compiled a Flow 2013 -playlist (click the words) of all the ones I want to see and two songs are embedded from soundcloud above because they couldn't be found on Spotify.

In addition to music there's also for example art & design at the festival. I'm looking forward to seeing the 67-year-old Irmela Mensah-Schramm who in her retirement has been removing flyers, stickers and graffitis that have a racist message or a mesage against Judaism or homosexuality in them. Awesome! Irmela will be doing a piece at the festival with the people attending it. Excited to see what that will be.

P.S. Note that Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will be playing on Saturday, not Friday as it was originally scheduled!

Viikonlopun odotetuin viisikko

Ei enää viikkoakaan Provinssirockiin! Viime vuonna kyseinen festari jäi väliin, mutta tänä vuonna se kutsuu kaikkina kolmena päivänä. Viikonlopun odotetuin viisikko käy ilmi alla olevista videoista. Ilmatieteen laitos lupaa tällä hetkellä sadetta festareiden ajaksi, mutta se ennustus nyt ehtii muuttua vielä moneen kertaan. Toivotaan että on aurinkoista, ja jos sataa, niin sataa vain kevyesti eikä kaatamalla.

Not even a week anymore and it's Provinssirock! Last year I didn't even go to the festival but this year I'll be going for the whole weekend. Five of the most anticipated (by me) bands are above. Right now the weather forecast says it'll rain next weekend but that forecast can change many times during the next week. Let's hope it'll just be sunny.

Nine Inch Nails - Came Back Haunted

Melkein  unohdin, että tällä viikolla julkaistiin uutta Nine Inch Nailsia, ja se kuulostaa todella hyvältä! Came Back Haunted sisältää pätkiä monista vanhoista NIN-biiseistä, mutta kuulostaa silti uudelta. Uusi albumi nimeltä Hesitation Marks julkaistaan syyskuussa ja kiertue Tension 2013 seuraa albumin julkaisun jälkeen. Tällä hetkellä on julkistettu  vain Pohjois-Amerikan kiertuepäiviä, mutta toivotaan että NIN löytää tiensä myös takaisin Suomeen ensi vuoden puolella. Suuri kiitos Trentille Nine Inch Nailsin henkiinherättämisestä!

I almost forgot that a new Nine Inch Nails song was released this week. It sounds really good! Although there are snippets from lots of old NIN songs in this new song it sounds really new. The new album titled "Hesitation Marks" will be released in September. A tour named "Tension 2013" will also follow. As of now there are only tour dates for North America but let's hope NIN will find their way back to Finland next year. A heartfelt thank you to Trent for resurrecting NIN!

Sophie Jamieson - Waterloo

Tänään kajahti ilmoille debyyttisinkku Waterloo Sophie Jamiesonilta! Biisi löytyy neidon tulevalta Where-EP'ltä, joka julkaistaan 24. päivä tätä kuuta. Kyseisen kappaleen sekä b-puolen nimeltä Gold saa muuten ladattua bandcampista ilmaiseksi!

Today is the day for the debut single "Waterloo" from Sophie Jamieson! It's from her upcoming EP called "Where". It'll be released on the 24th of this month. The song and it's B-side "Gold" can be downloaded from bandcamp for free!

The National - Trouble Will Find Me

ALICE//  On täysin mahdotonta, että The National tekisi huonon levyn. Siksi ei olekaan yllättävää, että Trouble Will Find Me on aivan upea levy. Ensimmäinen ulkomusiikillinen huomio, jolle muuten hihkuin ääneen, oli levynkansien välistä löytyneet lyriikat! Herra Berninger on selvästi kuullut toiveeni. Toinen oli kauniit mustavalkoiset ja värikkäät kuvat erinäisten taiteilijoiden (mm. Nancy Berninger) taideteoksista. Itse levy vakuutti alusta lähtien ja Fireproofin ensimmäisen sävelen kohdalla sydämeni hyppäsi muutaman lyönnin ja taisin unohta hengittää. Rakastuin tuohon kappaleeseen yhtä palavasti kuin edellisen levyn Sorrow kappaleeseen.  Mikään muu kappale uudella ei aiheuttanut ensikuuntelulla yhtä voimakasta tunnetta, mutta I Need My Girl tosin pääsi melko lähelle. Ainuttakaan hutia levyllä ei mielestäni ole ja uusia suosikkeja varmasti nousee, kun kuuntelukertoja kertyy lisää. Kahden yllä mainitun kappaleen lisäksi pidän hirmuisesti myös kappaleista I Should Live In Salt, Don't Swallow the Cap, Heavenfaced, Graceless, Slipped, Humiliation.. ei hemmetti, nyt täytyy todeta että eihän tästä mitään tule, parempi lopettaa ennen kuin luettelen levyn kaikki kappaleet. Lyhyesti ilmaistuna aivan loistava levy kokonaisuudessaan ja odotan loppuvuoden keikkaa kuin kuuta nousevaa! Kiitos ja hyvää yötä.

JUNE//  Kun broolynilaisherrojen edellinen on jotain niinkin upeaa kuin High Violet, voiko odotuksia lunastaa millään? Kyllä voi - riippuen siitä mitä odottaa. Trouble Will Find Me on parin vuoden takaiseen levyyn verrattuna riittävän erilainen: se esimerkiksi alkaa vahvasti I Should Live In Saltilla, joka on kaikessa tunnepitoisuudessaan erikoinen valinta ensimmäiseksi raidaksi. Se sopisi nimittäin loistavasti myös viimeiseksi, mutta onni on, ettei se sijaitse keskivaiheilla, sillä sinne se saattaisi hukkua. Ehkä. Tunnelma pysyttelee koko suhteellisen pitkän albumin ajan samankaltaisena, jolloin yksittäisten kappaleiden bongaaminen on kohtalaisen vaikeaa. Mutta kuuntelukertojen karttuessa se käy helpommaksi. Aloitusbiisin lisäksi hiturit Fireproof ja I Need My Girl osoittautuvat minunkin suosikeiksini, myöhemmin varmasti moni muukin. Kokonaisuutena levy on ylipäätään harvinaisen balladivoittoinen, ja rakastamani Mr. Novemberin tyylinen holtittomuus on tiessään. Uskon, että livenä kappaleista saadaan kasvatettua massiivisiin mittasuhteisiin kurottavia spektaakkeleita, jotka nostattavat kyyneliä enemmän kuin on laillista. Kaiho ja tummuus sävyttävät tätäkin pitkäsoittoa, mutta kuten sanottu, se on edeltäjiään rauhallisempi. Samalla se vaatii aavistuksen entistä enemmän tarkkaavaisuutta kuuntelijalta.

Albumin menevämpää osastoa: Graceless (live)

ALICE//  It's simply impossible for The National to make a bad album. Therefore it's not surprising that "Trouble Will Find Me" is a magnificent album. The first non-music-related  observatio I made was that there were lyrics! Mr Berninger has obviously heard my wish. The other were the black-and-white and colorful artwork by various artists (for example Nancy Berninger). The album convinced me from the very start and when the first note of "Fireproof" began my heart skipped a few beats and I think I forgot to breathe. I fell just as fervently in love with the song as I did with "Sorrow" on the previous album.  No other song on the album made such a powerful impression but "I Need My Girl" came pretty close.  I also really like the songs "I Should Live In Salt", "Don't Swallow the Cap", "Heavenfaced", "Graceless", "Slipped", "Humiliation".. damn, I just better stop right here before I mention all the songs on the album. In short: a magnificent album altogether and I'm sooo looking forward to the gig in October! Thank you and good night. 

JUNE//  When these gentlemen from Brooklyn released High Violet a few years ago, everybody thought nothing could ever compare to it. That The National's next album just couldn't reach expectations. Well, that depends on the expectations. In my opinion Trouble Will Find Me is just enough different from its predecessor - for example it opens with I Should Live In Salt, which is so full of emotion one would think it's more suitable for being the last song on the album. The tone of the whole album is one of yearning and beautiful sadness. But that can't necessarily be heard in the melodies - you might want to check the lyrics carefully, too. Fireproof and I Need My Girl are one of my favourites (as well as the mentioned opening track). They are mellow and soft, sad and slow, just like the rest of the album. I'm expecting lots of tears when hearing all these new songs live next fall.

MS MR

MS MR on newyorkilainen duo, joka koostuu Lizzy Plapingerista ja Max Hershenowsta. Kaksikko julkaisi debyyttialbuminsa Seconhand Rapture viime kuussa. He kuvaavat musiikkiaan tumblr glitch popin, soul fuzzin ja electroschockin sekoitukseksi, ja kaksikon musiikkia on verrattu Florence + The Machineen ja Lana Del Rayhin, eivätkä vertaukset oli väärässä. Debyyttialbumi alkaa todella vahvasti, ja sen ensimmäiset kappaleet Hurricane ja Bones ovatkin nousseet suosikeiksini. Heitin tuohon alle kehiin kyseiset kappaleet ja vielä pari muuta, koska en vain osannut päättää, ja koska kaksi varsinaista virallista videota (Hurricane & Fantasy) ovat aikaa jännää katsottavaa. MS MR on täydellistä musiikkia etenkin kesän kuumiin ja pimeisiin iltoihin.

          

MS MR is a New York-based duo consisting of Liz Plapinger and Max Hershenow. Their debut album "Seconhand Rapture" was released last month. They themselves describe their music as a mixture of tumblr glitch pop, soul fuzz and electroshock. Their music has been to compared to Florence + The Machine and Lana Del Ray and the comparisons are not wrong. The debut album starts very strongly and the first two tracks, "Hurricane" & "Bones" have become my favorites. I threw those songs in with this post and a few others too because I just couldn't decide, and because the official videos for "Hurricane" & "Fantasy" are so oblique and interesting. MS MR is perfect especially for warm and dark summer nights.

Bart Constant - Do Better

Ah-niin-ihanasta Amsterdamista ponnistava Bart Constant hivelee kuuloelimiä kepeillä melodioillaan. Debyyttilevyltä löytyy reippaampaakin poljentoa, mutta tänään tätä.

Bart Constant from the lovely Amsterdam makes my ears cry of joy. His debut album includes also a bit perkier moods, but today I feel like listening to this song.

The National - Sea of Love

Vielä muutama päivä The Nationalin uuden albumin julkaisuun! Odotellessa voi kuunnella vaikka levyltä irrotettua biisiä nimeltä Sea of Love. Uppoaa ainakin minuun.

Still a few more days until the release of The National's new album. While waiting one can for example listen to "Sea of Love" from the upcoming album. Love it.

She & Him - I Could've Been Your Girl

She & Himin kolmas albumi, Volume 3, julkaistaan huomenna. Albumia on kuitenkin voinut jo kuunnella ennakkoon täällä. Olen luukuttanut sitä viikonlopun aikana tehokkaasti ja hoilannut I Could've Been Your Girl -biisin tahtiin niin, että naapurit ovat varmasti jo hermostuneet..

She & Him's thrid album, "Volume 3" will be released tomorrow but you can already listen to the whole album (or individual tracks from it) here. I've been listening to it countless times this weekend and singing to "I Could've Been Your Girl" so much that my neighbors are surely annoyed..
